Final Exam Review

1. Captions:

A circus monkey crouches away from his trainer,Tommy , outside of a building. Jones was about to take the little guy's bike away as punishment after he swatted at him during valuable training hours.

Gloria Munoz, one of many protestors, marches through the streets of Mexico City with a large red cloth draping over her and the others. The protesters were walking in memory of 43 students who went missing under the police's watch two years ago.

2. Rules of Photography

  1. Rule of thirds- positioning and shooting the subject of your photo so they fall in one of the imaginary intersections made by three invisible lines falling over the picture horizontally and vertically.
  2. Balancing Elements- when your picture is balanced through the subject, colors, or shapes on both halves of your picture.
  3. Leading Lines- lines in your photo that lead the onlookers attention toward the subject.
  4. Symmetry and Patterns (repetition)- a series of the objects of the subject that appear the same and seem to be repeating. ex: shooting a picture forwards from the end of a line/row of people.
  5. Viewpoint- the angle in which you shoot your photograph from.
  6. Background- don't just focus on the subject when shooting your pictures, make sure to pay attention to the background as not to draw attention away from the subject. Using a simple background will help the focus draw towards the subject.
  7. Create depth- by adjusting aperture you can change the depth of field, or how much of your photo is in focus.
  8. Framing- Using objects to create a frame around the subject of your photo, subsequently drawing more attention towards it.
  9. Cropping- most commonly done in photoshop, cropping is a way to make the image smaller or able to fit in a certain provided space.
  10. Mergers and avoiding them- busy backgrounds or objects in the background of a photo that unintentionally interact with the subject of the photo.

3. Aperture, Shutter Speed, ISO

  • aperture- the amount of light let into the photo. It controls the depth of field.
  • shutter speed- determines how long the shutter stays open to allow light in
  • ISO- how sensitive the photo is to light

4. Manipulating photos in photoshop

  • acceptable- changing the lighting/levels, and making small, minuscule changes that are approved by the subject
  • not acceptable- making large changes to a persons appearance, changing an image to make it technically/informationally/politically incorrect, adding objects into the image that weren't in the original photo

5. Portrait Types

  • environmental- a portrait executed in the subjects usual environment.
  • self portrait- a self taken photo of or representing the photographer
  • casual portrait- a common type of portrait used to focus on the subject without anything around them to distract/take away our attention from them
6. Photographic terms-
  • Exposure- lighting; how much light is exposed to the picture
  • Depth of field- having to do with aperture: how much of the photo is focused.
  • focal length- the calculation of an optical distance from the point where light rays converge to form a sharp image of an object to the digital center at the focal plane in the camera.
7. types of magazine covers-
  • Early- consisted of a title and  the publication date with maybe an illustration
  • poster- one picture or illustration that often didn't go with the main story. headline and words don't cover the photo.
  • married to type- pictures with added cover lines
  • forest of words- intense photography with a large amount of cover lines

Fashion Photography

1) they made her lips bigger, her neck longer and thinner and they made her eyes bigger
2) They made her body, legs and arms thinner, they made her neck longer, and they changed her skin tone.
3) they made everything smaller. they slowly shaved they sides of her body, they also made her hair longer.
4) no because it is not okay to give a perception of someone that isn't true.
5) i think them cutting down the plus size model to be that thin is very insulting and the only other thing worse might be someone putting those things up for people to see and pretending that person looks like that.
6) i think on a picture it is okay to cover a pimple or two that might be showing but i think changing someone's body that dramatically is wrong.
7) photojournalism takes a picture and adds light or dark or high amount of a certain color to either give a more vibrant look or a softer fader look. fashion photography gives a fake perception of girls or boys that women think they have to be like even though those pictures are fake.
8) photojournalism takes a picture of an event and puts it out there to let people know what is going on, Fashion Photography takes a picture, manipulates it , and then puts it out there for whatever there product is to be sold faster.
9) to show that photoshop can be uses for good and for bad. even tough these models look more "attractive" the pictures give off a bad message that all women must look like this or they are considered "ugly" or "fat"
10) i think that non of these videos are about guys because 1. this normally happens with women          2. men are a lot more demanding for a women to have a perfect body 3. and also i think women are more accepting if a guy doesn't have a perfect body but if a women doesn't they are not as accepting

ISO

ISO 3200

ISO 200

1. using a higher iso at a baseball or football game will let more light to be in the photo, making the picture brighter.
2. you should try to use low iso because it will let the photo have the most detail.
3. you should use a high iso when you need to make the photo brighter

apature setting available: 2.8, 4, 5.6, 8, 11, 16,22
shutter speed setting available: 1 second, 1/60 seconds, 1/4000 seconds
iso setting available: 100 to 25600

shutter speed

low shutter speed

high shutter speed

this is difficult because it needs a lot of light during a specific time.

a) shutter speed of 1/500
b) shutter speed of 1/300
c) shutter speed of 1/125
d) shutter speed of 1/1000
e) shutter speed of 1/250
f) shutter speed of 1/420

if it is very dark you will most likely need to make the shutter speed very low. the lowest possible shutter speed that you wouldn't need a tripod for would be 1/60.

a) shutter speed of 1/60
b) shutter speed of 1/60
c) shutter speed of 1/125
d) shutter speed of 1/60
e) shutter speed of 1/125
f) shutter speed of 1/100

three of the settings that have to deal with shutter speed are "auto" mode, "aperture priority", " shutter priority" and you could also use "manual" mode.

Aperture

f16
f2.8

1. The human eye.
2. The smaller the aperture, the less light let into the photo, therefore making the depth of field larger. And the larger the aperture , the more light let into the photo, which makes the depth of field smaller.
3. The larger the aperture is, the less depth of field you will have, meaning more of the background will be blurred out and the foreground will be smaller. And the smaller the aperture is  the more depth of field you will have, which blurs less of the background and makes the foreground bigger.

1) A theme we could do could be school life.
2) I think we should open up the picture taking to all types of cameras so everyone has an opportunity to take pictures.
3) i think it should be pt in the academic hall so everyone can see it.

Academic Shoot

lines
1)I thought I followed this rule pretty well because the lines in the photo look really cool and add a good element to the photo.
2)The subject in this photo is the wiring because the boy is blurred out
3)i think it is because that is what the camera is focused on.
4)I think i followed it

Balance
1) I think this is balanced because the two people balance out the picture.
2) I think the subject is the two people.
3) I think it is because thats the main point in the story.
4)I think i followed it well.

Framing
1) I think this is framing because the lines that lead to the end and then the bottom of the picture is the third side.
2) The main focus in this picture is her.
3) this is very clear because everything else is kinda burred out.
4) i think i followed this rule.

Rule Of Thirds
1) i think this is rule of thirds because she is on the far right side instead of in the direct middle of the picture.
2) the main focus in this picture is her.
3) i think she is because the background is very plain and she is wearing bright pink.
4) I think i followed the rule.

Simplicity
1) i think this is simplicity because the background is very plane and she is wearing a bright color.
2) she is the main point in the picture.
3) yes, because she is wearing a very bright color.
4) I think i followed the rule.

The Story

I think that this is showing emotion because they are reacting to the explosion and it was caught on camera.

This is showing something cool because the lighting will it makes it look really cool.

This is showing a story  because he is teaching the class about a subject.

Balance

Simplicity

Rule of Thirds

Framing

I think this photo is framing because the 4 sides of the building that has been blown out frames the fire fighter very well.

Avoiding Mergers

I think that this is avoiding mergers because i really don't know what the main point of this pictures for my it is really distracting and maybe if the photographer focus on one of the groups of people instead  the whole group of people.

Lines

this shows lines because the sidewalk and the buildings lead the person to somewhere. Also the light helps the photo be directed somewhere.

camera history

1. the hole acts like a lens, focusing and projecting light onto the wall of the dark chamber.

2. issac newton and christian huygens perfected the  understanding of optics and the process of making high quality glass lenses.

3. niepce created the first modern camera with a dark box, glass lens and film.

4. Modern cameras are still have some of the same parts as Niepce's original camera.

5. Digital cameras, as opposed to plastic film in the old-fashioned ones, capture the image with an electronic sensor called a CCD.

6. In Auto mode, the camera controls the flash and the exposure while in Program mode, you can control flash and exposure.

7. Portrait mode is used to focus on only your subject and blur the background.

8. Sports mode is used to freeze motion,  the highest shutter speed possible.

9. you would press the button half way down for it to focus on what you want to take a picture of.

10. The symbol means "Disabled Flash," meaning no flash. you would use this if wanted it to be more dramatic with the natural light.

11. This symbol means the flash is on auto. On most cameras, the flash will fire if it thinks the picture needs more light.

12. If there is too much light, the picture will be washed out.

13. If there is not enough light, the picture will be very dark.

14. A "stop" is a measure of light.

15. The new planet is 1 stop brighter if there are two sons instead of one.

16. The new planet is 2 stops brighter if there are four sons instead of two.

17. A longer shutter speed will make the photo have more light.

18. A shorter shutter speed will make the photo have less light.

19. the apature controls the amount of light that is let into the camera.

20. When adjusting the aperture, you can increase the amount of light by making the opening larger.

My first post

This is my best picture of Brianna because I think the lighting is good.I like the sky in the background. I think that the emotion on her face is good because its not like a normal picture where you are just smiling.

I don't like this one of priscilla because i don't think that this is a very good angle specifically. She also has a shadow on her face.
